#3-6 :
Art Inspirations (bunch 1)#7-23 :
Notes from workshops, info sessions, and Spring meeting w/ Nicole.#24-25 :
A breakdown of my proposal points and the things I liked about the MA solo pieces. I wrote certain aspects that could potentially inspire something for my piece.
At this point, the green pen detail the first sentence of each piece, with the red pen detailing the final sentence of each piece. I added this later on in my process when trying to create a good beginning and ending for my piece. It will border other pages.#26-30 :
Words and phrases from my source material Circe that inspired me or intrigued me.#31-38 :
Notes taken from a book called The Story of Witches: Witchcraft, Magic and the Occult by Willow Winsham.
#39-42 :
Art Inspirations (bunch 2)#43 :
A poem/ sonnet I wrote while at the Sky Garden. I spent many hours there hoping for some inspiration. -
#44-46 :
Ideas as of 08 September 2025. I still had no idea what the piece I was writing was about. I think part of me was afraid of writing something so close to my heart. I needed to just let go of expectations and worrying about my marks/ how my piece would lead to specific roles in the rest of year 2.#47-55 :
I printed out a collection of poems (mostly love poems) that I have written since January 2025 and I cut out specific lines or words that stuck with me when rereading them.#56-57 :
Free write #1
I did my best to let the ideas and thoughts flow. I have blurbed the names of most people in this and future free writes.#58-59 :
All words and phrases from my poems + Circe + ideas I had. I wrote them all out next to each other.#60-64 :
Free write #2#65-68 :
A summary of Free writes 1 and 2. Written out to get my ideas together and be able to actually read the handwriting when I look back at it.#69-71 :
Poem continuations. I took broken up poems that I previously wrote and pasted in the book, and I wrote a different ending to the poems. These specific poem continuations are not personal.#72 :
A very personal sonnet. This sonnet, written while I was in tears, had a huge part into my final piece. -
73-74 :
Concepts, metaphors, and ideas. I also included aspects of shows directed by Daniel York Loh that I loved. I have been a huge fan of the violence that occurs in shows he directs. I also have a specific scene that came to me.#75 :
Messages I want people to get from my piece.#76-82 :
Free Write #3#83-86 :
A summary of free write #3#87 :
A oracle/ tarot spread done on 16 September 2025.#88-91 :
Free Write #4#92-93 :
Art Inspirations (bunch 3)#94-98 :
A deep dive into The Lady of Shalott by Alfred Tennyson. Since the painting was very inspirational, I looked into the poem that inspired it. These pages include lines that inspired me, thought on what he meant, and quotes from certain academic on the story.#99-102 :
Rewriting what we talked about in Ed’s workshop that previous spring. These pages also include some writings that occurred to me.#103-109 :
I took my biggest phrase for my piece “Breaking free from expectations/guilt” and wrote down every phrase or word that came to me. After this, I circled whatever I gravitated towards most and detailed even more on THOSE ideas.#109-115 :
Using the ideas from previous pages (103-109), I tried to get out of my head and simplify who I am writing about. This led to a story and a bunch of drawings. While this was very useful and gave me more insight on the story I wanted to write, I realized what I had written was either too much telling instead of showing, not able to be done without multiple people on stage.#116-119 :
Free write #5#120-125 :
Writing for writing’s sake. I just wrote whatever came to mind when looking at the ideas from pages 103-109. This time it was more of a monologue format for each one. -
126-129 :
My first few paragraphs of a monologue. Not necessary the piece I wrote, but certain parts did make the cut. It all came to me and clicked at this point. This is what I wrote my first draft off of- I wrote what I could/would say and then what the actions would look like with the words. It gave tremendous backstory to this character I was creating. While the words I wrote weren’t necessarily in the final piece, the backstory WAS the character’s.#130-135:
This was heavily character based. What she was feeling and her similarities to me. What is similar and what is different.#136-137 :
I wrote actions from my piece as it was. This is also where I wrote notes from my first meeting with Aaron. I also explored certain rhyme schemes and patterns that I could use in my final piece. I looked a lot at J.R.R. Tolkien’s Sir Gawain, Pearl, and Sir Orfeo. I found this trilogy of books when going down the knighthood rabbit hole in my research. -
138-139 :
A mix between my rough draft and my first draft, taking notes and ideas that Aaron and I discussed in the first meeting.#140-143 :
Character ideas for Girl 1. These pages also have more notes from my first meeting with Aaron and my answers to specific questions he asked me. These, of course, were written after I had time to think on the questions. I also have a weird drawing when seeing what parts of my rough draft were relevant to the rest of the story that I was telling.#143-147 :
Version 1 of my piece.#148-149 :
Specific plot points from my source material.#150- :
The key points from my first version.#151 :
Notes from our first voice meeting with Colin.#152 :
Notes from the meeting we had with Robin on monologue parameters.#153-157 :
The lines written out from whatever version I was on. I used this to add and remove things to the piece. -
#158 :
Tech details.#159-161 :
This is a way I learn my lines. by taking the first letter of each word and writing it vertically on paper. Each line for poetry or sentence would be on vertical line (if possible).#162-163 :
Christina was kind enough to offer to see all of us one-on-one to discuss movement. This was the first time I was putting it on my feet and was so incredibly useful to my solo piece and where it ended up going.#164-168 :
The lines as they were written.#169-171 :
The vertical letter thing for line learning. -
#172-176 :
CHARACTER CHARACTER CHARACTER. These pages contain details of each of my characters in my piece. Who they are, how they think, what they feel during the monologue and in general.
I also go into detail on the physical aspect for each version of this Girl . Where they hold tension, where they lead from, elements, animals, etc.#177-178 :
Notes from a rehearsal with Aaron. What was discovered, and ideas/concepts to think about.#179 :
A diagram of what the stage would look like.#180-182 :
Something I struggled with was being more direct with the things I was saying. Aaron and I discussed who I was referring to in the piece, since some of the things I said were things I wanted to say to people who wronged me for whatever reason. We talked about what they would be wearing and how they would look. This was incredibly useful. For obvious reasons, I have blocked the names of people. They each have one color though.#182-183 :
Notes from the plain clothes run. For voice and movement. I also included the cue issues I had during the dress rehearsal.#184 :
Notes from the dress rehearsal.#184- 193 :
My final reflection on the process and performance.
